How are you handling late cancellations and no-shows without losing long-time clients?
I run a small beauty salon (4 chairs) and we’ve seen a noticeable uptick in last-minute cancellations (under 24 hours) over the past couple of months. It’s starting to hurt our bottom line, costing us around $400–$600 a week in empty slots.
We currently send SMS reminders 48 hours prior, but we don't strictly enforce a deposit or card-on-file cancellation fee because I'm worried about pushing away regulars who have been with us for years.
For those who switched to requiring deposits or strict cancellation fees:
Did you experience any pushback or loss of loyal clients when introducing the policy?
What software or booking workflow worked best to make the process seamless for both staff and clients?
How do you handle exceptions for genuine emergencies without client abuse?
Would love to hear how other owners have successfully protected their schedule without damaging client relationships!
